We have already done enough to make things tougher for the whole community. Our never ending quest has always been to make things simpler. A typical CFC molecule contains a Chlorine atom in the compound. The compressor has to work lesser to compress the gas for cooling it to the same temperature; as a result lesser amount of energy is used increasing the overall efficiency of the system.

A lot of capital is now being invested in the area of research for enviro safe refrigerant and other alternatives. Tweaking the systems will not be a great idea as so many machines will go useless. To balance off we have to look for alternative which would work on existing machines with no or little changes. To conserve energy and minimize the global warming, the systems should be designed appropriately. Right now a lot of companies are providing green alternative refrigerants.
